Chiron’s Final Return to Aries and the Healing We’re Being Asked to Revisit
We tend to think of healing as forward movement. We identify something that hurts. We understand it. We work through it. We learn from it. And somewhere in the back of our minds, we imagine that eventually we will arrive at a point where we can place that experience neatly behind us and continue forward.
But healing rarely works that way. Sometimes something we thought we had already worked through returns.
An old fear resurfaces, a familiar relationship dynamic appears again, a boundary we thought we had mastered is tested, an old version of ourselves suddenly feels very close, and our first reaction can be frustration…
Why am I here again?
Haven’t I already dealt with this?
Shouldn’t I be further along by now?
But perhaps returning to something doesn't always mean we've gone backwards. Sometimes we return because we are different now.
We are meeting the same wound with more awareness. The same fear with greater capacity. The same pattern with choices we didn't know we had before. And astrologically, we are entering a moment that reflects this beautifully.
After briefly moving into Taurus earlier this year, Chiron is retrograding back into Aries for one final chapter before beginning its longer journey through Taurus in April 2027.
Perhaps before we move forward, there is something worth looking at one more time.
First, What Is Chiron?
In astrology, Chiron is commonly associated with the archetype of the Wounded Healer. Its symbolism comes from Chiron of Greek mythology, a centaur associated with healing, wisdom and teaching who carried a wound of his own.
Astrologically, Chiron has therefore become associated with places of vulnerability…experiences or parts of ourselves that may feel particularly tender, difficult to resolve or somehow different from the rest of us.
But I think Chiron becomes much more meaningful when we stop interpreting it simply as: "Here is where you are wounded."
Because Chiron is also about what can develop through our relationship with that wound.
Compassion, understanding, wisdom, self-awareness, acceptance.
Sometimes even the ability to accompany someone else through terrain we know intimately ourselves. Healing does not necessarily mean that every painful experience disappears or that we reach a point where nothing can trigger us again. Sometimes healing is quieter than that. Sometimes the wound is still part of our story…but we are no longer living our entire life from inside it.
Chiron in Aries: The Wound of “I Am”
Chiron first entered Aries in April 2018, briefly returned to Pisces later that year, and then re-entered Aries in February 2019, where it remained until its first move into Taurus this June. It now returns to Aries from September 17, 2026 until April 14, 2027.
That makes this an unusually long chapter, and Aries is a powerful place for Chiron to travel through because Aries represents something incredibly fundamental: “I am”
Aries is associated with identity, instinct, independence, courage, action, desire, assertion and our willingness to occupy our own space.
So Chiron's journey through Aries can be explored through questions around our right to exist as ourselves.
Who am I when I'm not trying to become who everyone else expects me to be?
Do I trust my own desires?
Can I take up space?
Can I say no?
Can I act without everyone agreeing with me?
Can I choose myself without believing that doing so makes me selfish?
Can I belong without abandoning who I am?
For some, these themes may have shown up through relationships. For others it may comes through in themes of career, family, boundaries, leadership, creativity, visibility, independence. Or simply the slow realization that a life built around other people's expectations eventually becomes very difficult to inhabit.
Evolutionary Astrology interests me precisely because it allows us to ask questions like these.
Not simply: "What is Chiron going to do to me?" But: What has this chapter been asking me to develop?
Think Back to Who You Were in 2018
This is where I think this transit becomes particularly interesting. Think about yourself eight years ago. Not just what you were doing.
Who were you?
What did you believe about yourself?
Whose approval mattered?
What did you tolerate?
What frightened you?
Where did you silence yourself?
What did you think you needed in order to feel safe?
What did you believe you were allowed (or not allowed) to want?
And then look at yourself now…perhaps there are things you still struggle with. There probably are, but maybe there are also conversations you can have now that you couldn't have then. Boundaries you can hold, relationships you've outgrown, risks you've taken, truths you've admitted, parts of yourself you've stopped apologizing for.
Ways you've become more willing to say: This is who I am.
This is super important, because healing is sometimes easier to recognize when we stop asking "Am I completely healed?" and start asking: "How do I relate to this differently now?"
Revisiting Is Not the Same as Repeating
Chiron's return to Aries is happening because it is retrograde, an apparent backward movement from our perspective on Earth. Astrologically, retrogrades are often interpreted as periods of review, reflection and revisiting. I like that symbolism because it reminds us of something important: Revisiting isn't necessarily repeating.
You can return to the same kind of situation with a different boundary and experience an old fear without allowing it to make the decision. You can recognize a familiar relationship pattern before disappearing inside it.
You can have the conversation you once avoided, you can return to something that once overwhelmed you and discover that you now have the capacity to stay present. You can even change your mind.
The external situation may look familiar, but you are not necessarily the same person standing inside it.
And perhaps that is one of the invitations of this final passage through Aries. It’s not about reopening every wound. Not to search endlessly for another thing to fix, but to notice what has changed. A revision period.
Sometimes healing doesn't ask us to move forward. Sometimes it asks us to return to something with the person we have become. With a new perspective, more awareness and compassion.
When Healing Becomes Another Way of Fixing Ourselves
There is another side of Chiron that I think is important to talk about. Especially in spiritual and personal-development spaces, we can become obsessed with healing.
There is always another wound, another pattern, another block, another childhood experience, another belief to clear, another version of ourselves we need to become…and eventually, healing itself can quietly reinforce the belief: Something is wrong with me.
But what if healing isn't an endless project of fixing ourselves? What if part of healing is learning to meet ourselves with greater compassion and empathy?
What if the question isn't always: "How do I get rid of this?"
But sometimes: "How do I care for this part of myself differently?"
Chiron's mythology is meaningful precisely because the wound and the wisdom coexist. Perhaps our sensitivity doesn't always have to disappear in order for us to become whole. Sometimes the things that have hurt us become part of the depth with which we understand ourselves, other people and life.
Chiron Has Already Given Us a Glimpse of Taurus
On June 19, 2026 Chiron entered Taurus for the first time in this cycle. It remained there until returning to Aries September 18, 2026 giving us a brief preview of a much longer chapter that begins in April 2027 and extends, with a later retrograde return, into 2034.
Taurus brings us into very different territory. Astrologically, Taurus is connected with the body, resources, money, material security, values, pleasure, stability and what sustains us. Contemporary astrological interpretations of Chiron's Taurus transit therefore emphasize themes around self-worth, comfort, money, possessions and values.
And I don't think we need to understand that entire chapter yet. We'll have plenty of time for that, but perhaps we can become curious about what the last few months have already begun showing us.
Have questions around money or financial security become louder?
Has your relationship with your body changed?
Have you become more conscious of what exhausts you?
Are you questioning what enough means?
Have you noticed difficulty receiving?
Are you thinking differently about work, stability or what you actually value?
Are you realizing that something you once considered secure doesn't necessarily make you feel safe?
Because underneath many Taurus themes is a very human question: What actually sustains me?
Not only financially. But also emotionally, physically, relationally and spiritually.
From “Can I Be Myself?” to “Can My Life Support Who I Am?”
This is the transition I find most interesting. If we understand Chiron in Aries as exploring wounds and growth around identity, courage and the right to be ourselves, perhaps Chiron in Taurus begins taking that exploration somewhere more embodied.
Aries asks: Do I have the courage to be myself?
Taurus might ask: Can I build a life that supports who I have become?
It's one thing to discover who we are, and it's another to build relationships, work, routines, finances and a physical life that can actually hold that person.
I don't see this return to Aries as moving backward. It feels more like an opportunity for integration before the next phase begins…where we can go deeper and really understand and accept ourselves.
We Don't Need to Rush Into the Next Chapter
There is enormous pressure in our culture to constantly move forward. The next goal, relationship, job, breakthrough…even spirituality can become another form of urgency.
But perhaps this moment is asking something quieter. Before you ask where you're going, notice how far you have come.
Before demanding the next answer, acknowledge what you've already learned. Before searching for another wound, notice where you have become stronger, softer, clearer or more honest. Before deciding you haven't progressed because something old resurfaced, ask whether you're actually meeting it differently.
There is wisdom in looking forward, but there is also wisdom in turning around every now and then, and recognizing how far we've traveled.
What If You Don't Know What Comes Next?
And perhaps this is where Chiron's return to Aries connects to something else I've been thinking and writing about lately. We want certainty about what comes next. We want the map before we start walking.
We want to know the relationship will work, the business will succeed, the move will be right or the decision will lead exactly where we hope it will.
Sometimes we even turn to astrology, intuitive readings, the Akashic Records or other spiritual practices hoping they will remove uncertainty for us. But I don't believe spiritual guidance should replace our relationship with ourselves. It should deepen it.
Perhaps self-trust isn't knowing that everything will work out exactly as we want. Perhaps it's knowing that even if it doesn't, we trust ourselves enough to meet whatever comes next.
I explore this much more deeply in another article, What If You Don't Need to Know What's Next?, because I think uncertainty and self-trust are intimately connected.
We may not know exactly what the next chapter looks like, but we can still know ourselves more deeply as we enter it.
A Few Questions to Sit With
As Chiron makes this final return to Aries, you might reflect on:
Who was I when this chapter began in 2018–2019, and who am I now?
Where have I learned to take up more space in my own life?
What do I no longer need permission for?
Where am I still abandoning myself for approval, belonging or safety?
What old situation am I now capable of meeting differently?
What has this summer shown me about money, worth, security, my body or what sustains me?
Where am I still treating healing as something I need to "complete" before I can fully live?
What would change if I trusted myself without needing certainty about the outcome?
You don't need to answer all of them. Read through them and notice which ones make you pause. Reflect and sit with what comes up in your body. Sometimes that's enough.
Before We Move Forward, We Go Back
Maybe this final chapter of Chiron in Aries isn't about discovering another thing that's wrong with us.
Maybe it's an opportunity to recognize what has already changed.
The old triggers may come up from time to time, an old fear may still visit, the circumstances may occasionally feel familiar…but perhaps you are different, or in a different place. Sometimes that is what healing looks like. Facing our fears and walking forward with more strength and courage.
Not reaching some final, perfectly healed version of ourselves, but becoming capable of returning to an old place without automatically becoming the old version of ourselves. And before we rush toward whatever comes next, perhaps we can spend a little time honoring the person who made it this far.
